Rhetorical Analysis: Invention Work

I began my brainstorming by watching the H&M video, "She's a Lady," twice and analyzed as much as possible. I then watched it two more times and tried to pick three themes I thought were most prominent. The themes I noticed were the body of the woman, the behavior of the woman, and the position (socially) of a woman. So, I watched it over eight more times and typed as many keywords/phrases that would help me form my ideas for my essay.  Invention Work Body- Then: Skinny, delicate, tall, long straight hair, porcelain skin, lack of body hair. Now: Any body type, can have muscles armpit hair, any color skin, any hair, short, skinny, tall, curvy, short hair, long hair    Behavior: Poised, manners, quiet, light makeup, no opinion, good posture, agreeable, not sexual. Now: Loud, slouc h ing , whatever makeup you want, outspoken, sexual, having fun enjoying life.   Position: below men, submissive, dependent on men. Now: Lady boss, not intimidate...

Rhetorical Analysis: Rough Draft with Peer Edits

Shown below are the suggestions by peers in order to make my paper easier to understand and meet the expectations of the project requirements. From every one of my peers, I was told to make sure I clearly state what H&M defines a woman. They also suggested that I give more examples from the past of what woman was to society. I edited my paper based on those two big suggestions. My peers also gave me very encouraging comments that helped me feel more confident in the advertisement I picked because I was skeptical of it due to the difficulty of how many themes there was in the video.              Picture of Peer Edits

Rhetorical Analysis: H&M Commercial, "She's a Lady"

My rhetorical analysis project was based on the ad “She’s a Lady” produced by H&M. This ad addresses the modern appeal to the popular skepticism of the traditional expectations of what makes a woman a woman. H&M addresses this topic of feminism through displaying and encouraging body diversity, freedom of expression and opinion. This advertisement is geared towards women of all ages but naturally attracts the younger crowd of women because of the twenty-first-century values weaved throughout the video. Something that stood out about my project was that I chose an advertisement that didn’t cause a negative emotion but a more empowering advertisement that politely challenged the concept of woman.    She's a... Lady? What is woman? Is she delicate or strong? Is she black, white, Latino? Is she poised and put together? Does she wear size four or fourteen? From “She’s a Lady” by H&M, we can see the modern appeal to the popular skepticism of the traditional...

This I Believe: Potent Emotion

For my This I Believe Project, I chose to explain that to express and fully experience negative emotions is not negative within itself. I used the experience with my journey of learning how to emotionally process being diagnosed with a chronic illness that can only be treated by frequent brain surgeries. I think something that stood out about my writing is that I am very emotionally involved with my words and I love to express myself vividly, uncensored and honestly. I like to bring the reader into my world so, they can understand.   Potent Emotion     I absorbed every emotion in the cold, white hospital room as the diagnosis was being confirmed by the black and white images.    “Brain tumor... Blocking... Flow... Urgent ... Operation... Chronic... Miracle.”   Like the doctors, I remained calm and nervous but with the burden of holding both my parents and my emotions captive. I gently asked to go to the bathroom once everything was se...
