Rhetorical Analysis: Invention Work

I began my brainstorming by watching the H&M video, "She's a Lady," twice and analyzed as much as possible. I then watched it two more times and tried to pick three themes I thought were most prominent. The themes I noticed were the body of the woman, the behavior of the woman, and the position (socially) of a woman. So, I watched it over eight more times and typed as many keywords/phrases that would help me form my ideas for my essay.
Invention Work

  • Body- Then: Skinny, delicate, tall, long straight hair, porcelain skin, lack of body hair. Now: Any body type, can have muscles armpit hair, any color skin, any hair, short, skinny, tall, curvy, short hair, long hair
  • Behavior: Poised, manners, quiet, light makeup, no opinion, good posture, agreeable, not sexual. Now: Loud, slouching, whatever makeup you want, outspoken, sexual, having fun enjoying life.
  • Position: below men, submissive, dependent on men. Now: Lady boss, not intimidated by men nor independent on them.

Final Reflection

The purpose of the final reflection is to inform my audience of an overview of all I have completed in this my Composition II class. I address all three projects geared to displaying how they could be applied to the six learning outcomes. I also give an example of the challenges and strengths that this class revealed. I end the essay off with the overall benefit of the class.  Final Reflection Over the past semester in English Composition II, we have completed three main projects. There were six learning outcomes expected for the students to achieve and I believe that I conquered them all. The first learning outcome was to “respond appropriately to various rhetorical situations, purposes, and audiences”. The second learning outcome was to “use writing and reading for inquiry, learning, thinking and communicating”. Another learning outcome I was able to master was to use other’s ideas and “integrate” them into my writings. The fourth learning outcome that...

Rough Draft: When You Know Better You do Better

My unedited version of my persuasive argument had a lot of work to be done! My peer editors highlighted my higher order concern as needing to be more direct when it came to my thoughts and claim (thesis). They also pointed out the need to give light on what social media is already doing to help censor certain adult themes and protect children's development. Lower order concerns stated by my peer editors were grammar, punctuation and spacing. I went through and developed a stronger thesis, corrected my LOC's and tied my essay up with a strong ending claim to to thesis.  Persuasive Argument             “ As teens have started spending less time together, they have become less likely to kill one another, and more likely to kill themselves” (Klass, “When Social Media Is Really Problematic for Adolescents”) . Have you ever looked at your phone and felt a negative emotion or struggled with your mental health bec...

Exploratory Essay: Reflection

This is a reflection of Project 3 that goes over just a few of the important choices I made while exploring the topic of a growth mindset. It also demonstrates how I came upon a more specific topic and my stance on it.  Project 3 Reflection, Mind over Bias   The first decision I made was on the general idea I wanted to write about. I knew I had experience with a growth-mindset and how effective it was in my educational pursuit. As I continued to expand on the topic of the effectiveness of a growth mindset is, I ran into some “theory-holes” (holes in the theory of the growth mindset, that is). So, I decided to explore the defects of implementing the power of mindsets in the classroom. Once I realized there was a gap in the power of the mindset, I discovered the specific topic of my essay and my stance on the subject matter. My rough draft was just my article summaries patched together in a somewhat cohesive way with an introduction and conclusion. What I decided it ...
